You know the one, we've all been there!
The open strings are perfectly in tune but when you play a chord it sounds out.
You adjust your tuning so that the chord sounds in tune and now find that it’s out of tune somewhere else on the fingerboard. So you tweek it here and tweek it there!
And so begins the never ending cycle of chasing your tuning!
The Buzz Feiten Tuning System (BFTS) is an innovative idea created to brilliantly overcome these problems.
BFTS borrows from the principles of the 17th century organist/piano tuner Andrea Werckmeister.
Imperfections in tuning will go unnoticed in intervals such as perfect 5ths and octaves, but the ear will notice imperfections in tuning in 3rds, 6ths and 10ths. Werckmeister found that by narrowing the intervals slightly produced a much more pleasing and "in tune" sound.

1. Shelf Nut
The exclusive BFTS Shelf Nut moves the strings closer to the first fret according to a Patented Formula. This eliminates sharp notes at the first three frets.
Each Shelf Nut is precision machined from high quality bone for superb tonal response. The Lightning Bolt Logo (left) is machined into the top of each Shelf Nut for authenticity.

The strings are moved closer to the first fret a precise distance based on the scale length, fret width and string gauge of your guitar. The slight overhang of the BFTS nut (the 'Shelf') does this without altering your guitar in any way. So it's even fine for vintage guitars.

2. Intonation
Your guitar's bridge is adjusted according to the BFTS Patented Pitch Offsets, creating balanced intonation over the entire fingerboard, every fret & every string.
